Rent a Rowboat or Pink Flamingo Paddle Boat and Enjoy Buffalo's Hoyt Lake and Delaware Park

How many times have you drove past this Hoyt lake and the Albright-Knox art gallery and haven't stopped to enjoy it? Well, now is the time! Pack a picnic, wear sneakers, pack a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses and bottled water. Some cash for the boat rentals is also recommended. Enjoy a 1 mile walking loop (stroller friendly), fishing, feeding geese, picnic spots, places to relax under shade trees, a rose garden and a playground.

  • Hoyt Lake (near the Delaware Park Casino) is a calm, fairly shallow lake that is great for fishing, walking around, feeding ducks (pack some uncooked oatmeal in a baggie, not bread), just relaxing around and even renting a small boat. As of June 2020, it costs $10 to rent a rowboat for 30 minutes or $15 for the giant pink flamingo paddle boat for 30 minutes. It includes the use of life jackets at no additional cost. (We didn't know that, so we brought our own). Keep in mind, 30 minutes is a long time if you aren't used to rowing or pedaling a boat in water. The prices are per boat, not per person, so it's affordable for a family. You'll need your smart phone handy to fill out an online waiver. https://buffalomaritimecenter.org/hoyt-lake-boat-rentals/

  • Be sure to pack a picnic to enjoy under one the the numerous shade trees around, too!

  • There is a nice playground and rose garden near the casino, too, so be sure to check those out!
