COVID-Friendly, Winter STAY-cation Ideas

It's 20 degrees, the kids have off school, the pandemic is in full swing and you NEED to get out of the house before cabin fever kicks in, right? I'm right there with you! Here are some ideas for things you CAN (safely) do to FEEL like you're on a vacation:

Niagara Falls, USA - Downtown Niagara Falls is a hot tourist destination in the summer, but essentially a ghost-town in the winter. So, take advantage of the small crowd size and stay at the Sheridan in Niagara Falls. It has a big pool, 2 hot tubs, rooms with bunk beds, a Rainforest Cafe, and a small video arcade. The pool area requires a reservation for at time spot, to keep the crowds low. It's in easy walking distance to the natural wonder of the world - Niagara Falls. Seeing the falls in the winter is quite beautiful, with the ice covering (and sometimes freezing) the waterfalls. It's also worth a trip there at night to see it all lit up with various colors of lights. There Aquarium of Niagara is also nearby and worth a trip if your kiddos haven't been to one. The aquarium is extremely small, but has a show and can keep your kiddos entertained for a couple of hours. This is definitely not a full day excursion by any means, though.

Winter Cabin Camping or Lodging: Like most of us, you're probably reading this because you're ready to get out of the house. You could rent a cabin at many of our local New York State Parks, but be sure to rent these far in advance because they fill up quickly. Check out www.reserveamerica.com to find NYS Park reservations. If you're looking at a nicer place, maybe renting a lodge in ski country with a rustic fireplace and hot tub (yes, these really exist!), check out either a www.airbnb.com or www.vrbo.com (vacation rentals by owner).
